Vegan Thanksgiving

I'm on a bit of a Suzy Homemaker kick, having just moved into a new house that I love and want to show off. Which might partially explain the insane thing I did: I invited to Thanksgiving at my new place: my immediate family plus my mom's sister and her family, plus my husband's mother and sister and maternal grandparents and possibly also his uncle and cousin oh and of course let's not forget Berae, lovely co-author of this blog (who is currently in France btw).

So, I'm planning out my menu already. For those interested, here's what it includes so far (recipies from Veganomicon are indicated with "vcon" and the page number).

  • Autumn latkes (vcon 53)
  • Samosa stuffed baked potatoes (vcon 61)
  • Mashed spiced sweet potatoes (vcon 111)
  • Normal mashed potatoes (no recipe needed)
  • Butternut squash soup (comes in a carton in the hippie foods section of Kroger)
  • Cranberry sauce (from a can)
  • Cholent (vcon 182) OR seitan piccata (vcon 174)
  • Apple crisp (recipe at the post punk kitchen)
  • Stuffing (I plan to ask my mom for her recipe and then just replace the drippings (omg what a gross word) with vegetable broth and Earth Balance)
  • Pumpkin pie (don't have a recipe yet – tell me if you have a good one!)
  • Green beans (possibly a veganized version of that godawful (but strangely satisfying) casserole that comes pictured on the can)
  • Salad with fall-type things (cranberries, apples, etc.) on top, with maple dressing.
  • a few cans of candied yams in case for some reason we run out of other food
  • plus my sister-in-law volunteered to make baklava

Okay, that's a huge list. Probably not all of it will actually happen, but it might since a lot of people who are coming want to bring something. And I thought it might give you all some good ideas, whether you're hosting Thanksgiving or just bringing something to "share" with someone at theirs (actually to make sure there's at least one thing you can eat... sigh).

Let me know if I left out anything crucial!
