Yom Kippur has officially begun here in Ohio and for us veg*ans, the repentance of sins related to what we have eaten and drunk carries special meaning. For the first time since my bat mitzvah I used a tallis and kippah from the loaner basket because my personal set that were given to me eleven years ago were 100% wool. After last yom kippur, I gave them to my mother, who is not a vegan and has never had her own tallis or kippah.
I'm on a bit of a Suzy Homemaker kick, having just moved into a new house that I love and want to show off. Which might partially explain the insane thing I did: I invited to Thanksgiving at my new place: my immediate family plus my mom's sister and her family, plus my husband's mother and sister and maternal grandparents and possibly also his uncle and cousin oh and of course let's not forget Berae, lovely co-author of this blog (who is currently in France btw).
So, I'm planning out my menu already. For those interested, here's what it includes so far (recipies from Veganomicon are indicated with "vcon" and the page number).
So this will be my first Rosh Hashanah as a vegan. And to me, Rosh Hashanah means lots and lots of sweet noodle kugel, which in the past also meant loads of butter and cream cheese and egg noodles. Alas! So here's a few links to kugel recipes I scrounged up from the internet. I haven't tried any of them yet, but I'm sure I will soon enough. If you try any of these, post a comment saying how it turned out!
